Math Homework
As we near the end of the year, our homework will be much more purposeful for your student. We are completing Topic Tests and Checkoffs that allow students to demonstrate mastery of certain math skills, while showing which skills they need a little more practice with. When they finish a topic check, if they show they are understanding the skill, 80% or above, then they will not need to practice that skill. If they are not performing, then they will have homework in their workbook or worksheets to practice a little more.
Now that they are getting ready for moving on to 5th grade, please encourage your student to be responsible in completing their homework. Some students have slipped in completing assignments. Please check their agenda on a daily basis (although somethings we get caught up in learning and don't find the time to stop for agendas) I will try my best to make sure their homework, successes, and needs for more learning are in the agenda as well.
Thanks for your support!

homework 10/10 - 10/17
This week students need to complete their Reading Contract and Math Flashcard Contract. We will start with the Reading on Monday and the Flashcard will come home on Tuesday. They are to practice these nightly. I have emphasized this throughout the year that they should be reviewing and practing their math facts every night and reading. This contract holds them accountable for this. These are both due on Friday and require your signatures.
This is the easiest homework that they will get all year, please make sure this is completed every evening. This will only help your student improve at their own pace.
Thank you in advance!

homework choices
We have a new board this week! As we move into the Southeast Region and learning about Moons, our homework options have changed. Some choices have stayed the same, but there are many new options. Please make sure you are fully completing the assignment. You must have something to turn in for each task, whether it is an AR test, blog post, or paper to turn in. This week you must make 4 choices by Friday, November 16.
HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS: You should be reading, studying your multiplication, and practicing your spelling every single night to grow your brain! The homework choices should take between 20 - 40 minutes a night. That being said, please do not spend more than that, if you are truly working and staying on task, if your homework takes less than that, then you probably did not complete the entire assignment!

HOMEWORK 10/29
STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE ANY HOMEWORK TONIGHT BECAUSE WE ARE TAKING OUR READING BENCHMARK TEST TOMORROW MORNING AT 8:30a. PLEASE TRY YOUR BEST TO MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENT EATS BREAKFAST AND GETS A GOOD NIGHT'S REST THIS EVENING. THANK YOU!
Homework CHoices
WE HAVE JUST STARTED HOMEWORK CHOICES! HOORAY! Please please be patient as we get used to this new homework process. We discussed it at length today in class, but I am sure there are plenty of questions to come.
For the week of October 1, your student needs to make 3 homework choices to complete. I understand that everyone does not have computer access, and some time will be allowed for students to type up their response if necessary, but many of these can be completed using other resources! Be Creative! For example, a news article does not have to be found online, it can be from a newspaper, a television news program, the radio, etc. the student needs to write a summary of what happened thinking about who, what, when, where, and why. Then try and answer, why would this be important to us or how does it affect us. This is just one example!
These homework choices are meant to give your student more say in their homework, to have fun, and to allow for more flexibility and balanced homework. They may turn in homework as they complete it, but it is not DUE until Fridays. This will help them to understand time management, hopefully they will learn not to procrastinate, or Thursdays will become a very tough night.
Again, please be patient as we get this started. My hope is for students to do more critical thinking and problem solving that a simple worksheet. That is not to say, if I see your student specifically struggling with something or if they do not finish an in class assignment, that may become homework and will be written in the agenda.
Please do not hesitate to email with questions or write them in your student's agenda, but this is just the beginning and may take some getting used to. I apologize for any confusion! My only hope is to build our scholars as lifelong learners!
** I will upload a copy of the homework sheet so that it can be printed and/or access from home online

Read the Scholastic Article, "September 11th Revisited: New health study on rescue workers is released."

CURRENT EVENT - DUE FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 14
You need to find a current event from the newspaper, a magazine, or the internet. This does not have to about 9/11 but it can be. Current means that this event happened or was published within the last 10 days.
Please bring this in by Friday, you may bring it in early, but we will use it on Friday for an assignment.
