rocks and Minerals
We will be learning about rocks and minerals so that
Scientists will be able to:
describe the properties of matter.
predict and describe patterns of properties in matter such as how materials will interact with each other and how they can be changed
describe the characteristics of the material the matter is made from
use appropriate tools to identify the physical properties of matter
explain how magnets interact with all things made of iron and with other magnets to produce motion without touching them.
explain how electrically charged objects push or pull on other electrically charged objects and produce motion.
identify minderals by using particular tests and know how to perform tests for hardness and streak
test rocks for strength, hardness, flexibility, and ability to conduct heat and electricity, and attract to magnets.
classify rocks as metamorphic, sedimentary, or igneous based on their composition, how they are formed and the processes that create them
A ROCKin Webquest! Read carefully to learn about each rock type.

States of MAtter
Scientists will be able to:
4.P.2.1 Compare the physical properties of samples of matter:
(strength, hardness, flexibility, ability to conduct heat, ability to conduct
electricity, ability to be attracted by magnets, reactions to water and fire).
YOU MAY USE THE FOLLOWING SITES TO EXPLORE AND RESEARCH ABOUT THE PROPERTIES OF MATTER:
Chem4Kids
States of Matter - Harcourt
Fact Monster
Melting and Heating
Physical and Chemical Changes
Reversible Changes
Strange Matter

Moon Webquest
Moon Centers
Together you will complete the pre-test and a KWL.
KWL: with a partner - you need to make a show me to list all that you know about the moon. On the Ipad in Notes, I want you to make a list of what you already know about moons and the Earth. Then come up with at least 5 questions or things that you want to know. Then you need to email this list to me at [email protected]
I will put all of these together to make one for our classroom.
As a class, you will view the video on United Streaming about moons. This is to build your background knowledge before we begin our activities. "A Closer Look at Space: The Moon"
Reading with your assigned partner, you must read the book closely two times. You will need to know this information. If you finish early, you may reread or quiz each other about the book.

Electricity WEbquest
You will find out about how electricity is made.
You will learn about making circuits, using switches
and batteries.
Electricity is a great friend, but can also be
very dangerous. You will find out how to stay safe around electricity.
How many ways do we use electricity? Your group will
investigate how many ways we use it.
There are lots of people who made important discoveries
about electricity. Your group will be able to find out about some of these
important people.
